Dr. Azra Perveen is an accomplished academic, researcher and literary scholar, currently serving as Associate Professor and Chairperson, Department of Urdu, The Women University Multan. With over 27 years of teaching and academic experience, she has made significant contributions to Urdu literary studies, postgraduate research, academic leadership and institutional development. She is also an HEC-Approved PhD Supervisor and has been serving as Chairperson of the Department of Urdu since January 2023. She completed her Postdoctoral Research in Iqbal Studies from The Islamia University of Bahawalpur in 2025 and holds PhD and M.Phil degrees in Urdu from Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan. Her scholarship encompasses Urdu fiction and criticism, migration and displacement studies, women’s writing, postcolonial studies, translation, cultural studies and ecocriticism. Her postdoctoral research particularly explores Iqbal’s poetry from an ecological perspective. Dr. Azra Perveen has published 46 research articles in national and international scholarly journals. She is the author of Pakistani Urdu Afsanay Mein Tark-e-Watan Ka Izhar (2025), a scholarly study of migration, exile, and displacement in Pakistani Urdu short fiction. Her research demonstrates considerable thematic breadth, ranging from migration, feminism and postcolonialism to contemporary fiction, cultural studies, existentialism and environmental criticism. A major dimension of her academic contribution is research supervision and mentorship. She has successfully supervised 9 PhD and 42 M.Phil researchers, while 5 PhD and 7 M.Phil scholars are currently pursuing their research under her supervision. This extensive supervisory record reflects her sustained contribution to the development of emerging researchers in Urdu studies. Her academic leadership extends beyond teaching and research. She has convened and organized 14 national and international conferences, seminars, workshops, extension lectures and literary events at The Women University Multan and has actively participated in 35+ national and international conferences, seminars, workshops, professional development programmes, and scholarly forums, frequently contributing as a paper presenter, resource person and jury member. She also contributes to the wider academic community through membership of Boards of Studies, thesis evaluation committees, advisory and review boards of research journals, and various university academic committees. As Chairperson of Armaghan Adbi Forum, she continues to promote scholarly dialogue, literary engagement and research culture within and beyond the University. Her academic profile reflects a sustained commitment to research excellence, postgraduate mentorship, academic leadership and the advancement of Urdu language and literature, positioning her as an active contributor to contemporary Urdu scholarship and interdisciplinary literary research.
